Blurb ~
Excerpt~ Something extraordinary about him transformed Storm into a quivering mess. She became putty in his arms. He lifted his head and gazed into her eyes, his expression suddenly serious. Her eyes took in his features. Softly pouted lips, magnificent bone structure like that of a male model. Liquid pools of bright blue held her spellbound while tender hands slid the lace blouse over her shoulders to reveal flawless, ivory skin. He grazed her nape with tantalizing lips, occasionally biting the skin ever so lightly. Her body ached to have him, yet her mind swirled with apprehension. Over two thousands miles lay between Storm and reality. She wanted to give in, yet caution hovered in the back of her thoughts. It had been many years since she felt any passion in her life.
He pressed against her, a subtle reminder of the hard masculinity he offered. “Will you let me make love to you my sweet lady?” His accented voice flowed like honey.
She averted her eyes, feeling shy. “I want too, but I am afraid. Not that you will hurt me but that I will develop feelings for you. My winnings tonight will free me from his abuse, you have saved me and I am grateful.”
“You are afraid to love again, aren’t you?”
“Yes,” she nodded, unable to meet his gaze. “I don’t know if I can ever trust again.
Gently he turned her face towards his to look into her eyes. “So you want to take your winnings and live a life alone? Without love? Without the passion you write about in your books?”
“What do you know of my writing?” She pried.
“You have been chosen Storm. I know that you dream of a life filled with passion, romance and love.”
“Chosen for what?”
Stoke gave her a dazzling smile. “To win. But what you do with your good fortune will effect the rest of your life. You can check out anytime you want…but you can never leave.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
A slight grin tugged at the corners of his sensuous mouth. “Once you’ve spent a night here, it will be burned into your soul for all time.”
Storm laughed faintly. “Yeah right. What? Next you’ll tell me this is some kind of haunted casino?”
He didn’t laugh. His expression became solemn. “Would you like to hear a story?”
“Why not? I’ve nothing better to do. Go ahead and tell me your ghost story. After all, it is Halloween night.”
He sat up and pulled her onto his lap. “Let me explain.”
“Please do.” She couldn’t resist toying with his satiny hair. The scent of him made her mad with desire, but she restrained herself and listened to him.
He planted a soft kiss on her bare shoulder before continuing. “I have been living in this hotel casino for a very long time.”
“How long?”
“One hundred years at sunrise,” he sighed.
Her eyes widened. “Are you a vampire?”
“No, but you’re not far off. A hundred years ago bad people robbed this casino. The original owner thought it would be a clever idea to hold the grand opening on Halloween night with an elaborate costume ball. Well, another group of people considered it as a perfect opportunity to use their costumes to dodge security cameras and rob the place.”
His story began to interest her. “So what’s your role in that?”
“The thieves not only stole all the money, but they also murdered the original owner in cold blood. Because all of this occurred on All Hallows Eve, a curse fell over Hotel Euphoria the moment he died. Every exit instantly went into automatic lockdown. Everyone in the casino at that time became a victim of the curse. They are bound to the hotel for an eternity of servitude until the guilty are found and punished.”
“So the bad guys are still here?” Storm sought.
“Yes, so the spirits granted the owner a century to avenge his death and break the curse.”
She studied him curiously. “How could he do that if he’s dead?”
Stoke stared at her with a most unsettling gaze. “The spirit world restored him to an immortal man on two conditions. He must find a woman who truly loves him and then expose his killers. If he doesn’t succeed before his time is up, he will be forced to stay here with his assassins forever. And the hotel will remain cursed.”
“And your time is up tomorrow morning? You are the owner they killed, aren’t you?”
He nodded, relieved that she put it together. “Yes, and you are my only hope.”
“What? How is that? I didn’t have anything to do with your murder.” She slid off his lap and walked towards the window.
Stoke followed her, resting his hands on her shoulders from behind. “You won the jackpot Storm. The only way to break the curse is by giving the money back. Hotel Euphoria has been waiting for a generous soul to right the wrong done. Only one person is chosen each decade. You are number ten. I must convince you to give up the money. Then we have to find out who the killers were…before sunrise.”
She swung around and stared up into his eyes. “Why me? What about the other nine?”
“They kept the money. I wasn’t able to persuade them to help and I don’t know why. But you are different.”
“You think?” She questioned in disbelief. “This money is my ticket to freedom.”
Stoke moved the hair away from her face, his expression softened. “I offer you a different kind of freedom. Don’t sign the check Storm. Give the casino its money, break the curse and we can spend forever together. You want more than money, Storm. I felt the passion inside your soul the moment our lips met. Free me and I will keep you safe from the man who abuses you.”
“Why should I trust you? Or even believe this crazy story of yours?”
Strong arms pulled her close. His eyes held hers in an entrancing gaze. “Because you want to.”
Slowly he lowered his head until their lips met. Storm stiffened in an attempt to resist, but his touch…his kiss, swept her away. Passion unlike any she’d ever experienced flooded her soul. She couldn’t imagine writing anything that could compare to the feeling of euphoria he created in her. When he released her from the kiss, she stared at him through misty eyes. She wanted him more than anything at that very moment.
Suddenly wealth paled to the urgent desire coursing through her. Zale had given her plenty of material wealth, but never passion. She would give up everything to live a life of passion with this mysterious stranger who held irresistible magnetism, but only if he proved to be sincere. She had to be certain his story held truth.
“If what you say is true, does that mean everyone working here is a ghost?”
“Yes. Their souls were imprisoned here the night of the robbery.”
Storm pried farther. “What happens to them if the curse is lifted?”
“Innocent souls will be free to leave. The guilty will go to hell. Somewhere in this place is a group of people who don’t want that curse dispelled.”
